18AWG handles in-wall runs up to 20 feet to 8-ohm speakers at low to moderate power levels — TV soundbar satellite speakers, fill speakers in a hallway or kitchen adjacent to the living room, rear surround channels a few feet behind the seating position, and supplemental speakers in small spaces. For runs beyond 20 feet, choose 16AWG, 14AWG, or 12AWG to avoid resistance-related performance loss.
