14/2 vs 16/2 Speaker Wire: Which Should You Choose?
Learn the differences between 14/2 and 16/2 speaker wire, including distance, power handling, installation flexibility, and ideal applications.
Speaker Wire 12AWG 2 Stranded Conductors Clear Jacket
This 12/2 (12AWG, 2-conductor) speaker wire ships in a clear PVC jacket built for home, car, and RV audio installations where the cable stays exposed or surface-mounted rather than sealed inside a wall. Lower resistance than 14AWG or 16AWG gives it more headroom for longer runs, high-power amplifiers, and 4-ohm speaker loads.
This clear-jacket wire is not intended for in-wall installation; for runs that go inside a wall or ceiling, use our CL2-rated 12/2 speaker wire instead. A stripe on one conductor marks polarity — connect the striped conductor to positive (+) at both the amplifier and speaker, and it works with banana plugs, spade connectors, bare wire, and binding posts.
