14/2 vs 16/2 Speaker Wire: Which Should You Choose?
Learn the differences between 14/2 and 16/2 speaker wire, including distance, power handling, installation flexibility, and ideal applications.
Four conductors let this 14/4 (14AWG, 4-conductor) speaker wire carry audio to two speakers from a single in-wall pull — a left/right pair in one room, a bi-wire speaker with separate tweeter and woofer terminals, or an impedance-matching volume control loop that needs 4 conductors. CL2 rated for permanent installation inside the walls of residential buildings.
14AWG handles runs up to 100 feet per speaker pair to 8-ohm speakers without signal loss. Flexible stranded construction routes through walls without kinking, and color-coded insulation — Black, Red, White, Green — makes termination fast and error-free at bi-wire terminals and volume controls. For commercial buildings or riser runs, our CL3R-rated 14/4 OFC wire is required instead.
